Looted firearms and ammunition retrieved, more still missing

Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Police and the Joint Standing Committee on Defence have welcomed the retrieval of 63 firearms and over 5 000 rounds of ammunition.

The committees are concerned though, about the dangerous weapons that are yet to be found.
A container stocked with various calibre ammunition was raided by looters last week.
The committees led an oversight visit to KwaZulu-Natal and were briefed by the Minister of Police Bheki Cele and Minister of Defence Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula.

In a statement released on Tuesday night, they said the cooperation between the police and SANDF is commendable, but it's concerning that the situation was left to deteriorate to this point.
The committees are also worried about alleged racial tensions in and around Phoenix and reports of racial profiling in the name of securing suburbs and communities in some areas in KZN.
