Looted container with live ammunition was denied entry into SA: Police
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Police in KwaZulu-Natal are working to uncover the origins of a container carrying live ammunition which was allowed to pass through the Durban harbour a few weeks ago.

The consignment of tens of thousands of bullets made its way to a warehouse in Mobeni, in the south of the city, which looters broke into during the unrest.
Some of the ammunition has ended up on the streets of Durban.
KZN police chief Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi touched on the incident while speaking in Phoenix today on Tuesday.

"Early in July, we picked up a container that was containing ammunition in the harbour and we declined entry of that container as the South African Police Service.
"And when the indecent happened during this looting, we discovered ammunition there. When we inspected where the ammunition comes from, we found the same container that we had declined entry into the country.
"So we then registered that case. The case is being investigated to determine who authorised the release of that container from the harbour."
