Local school joins #StandUpForSadia campaign
Updated | By Portia Cele
Teachers from a Durban school say the 'Stand up for Sadia' campaign will help emphasize the urgency around the safety of children in local communities.

The Everest Primary School community will hold a picket outside the school tomorrow. Participants will wear orange T-shirts and display other items of the same colour.
The 'Stand up for Sadia' campaign takes a stand against gun violence following the death of 9-year-old Sadia Sukhraj.
Little Sadia suffered a fatal bullet wound to the abdomen during a failed hijacking in Shallcross, near Chatsworth on Monday.
Sibonelo Mkhize abandoned his bid for bail in the Durban Magistrates Court today. He is facing charges of murder, kidnapping and theft. Another suspect died on scene, while police have intensified efforts to find the third remaining suspect.

Everest Primary School Principal, Anesh Singh says Sadia was in Grade 4.
"The wear orange campaign is such a catalyst for bringing the community together and trying to ensure that community members do not sit on their laurels - that they work hard to ensure that their communities and schools are safe," Singh said.
Singh says she was well-liked by teachers and pupils alike.
The school will also hold a private memorial service tomorrow.
