Local medic Paul Herbst laid to rest
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Family, friends and the emergency service community have come out in their numbers to say their final goodbyes to the late medic Paul Herbst.
Herbst, who was with the Ballito-based Medi Response, passed away last week.
His death came shortly after he'd returned a hero from Turkey, where he and a team of South Africans rescuers had helped to search for and pull out survivors from buildings collapsed by the recent earthquake.
The sound of sirens filled the air as a convoy of Medi Response vehicles escorted Paul Herbst's body to the Grace Family Church in Ballito.

Paramedics from the emergency services group formed a line outside.
The church grounds were filled with fellow first responders from other ambulance services, the KwaDukuza Fire Rescue Department, the SAPS, and Gift of the Givers.
They, along with family, friends and other local residents had come to pay their last respects to Herbst.
They were also celebrating his life, much of which he spent rescuing people and saving lives.
Herbst has also been given a salute by the military. An army helicopter circled the church premises as mourners looked on before the chopper disappeared into the sky.
