Tributes pour in as Medi Response's Paul Herbst passes away
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Tributes have been pouring in for local first responder Paul Herbst who has passed away.
Herbst was the director and spokesperson for Medi Response.
He and his team had just returned from Türkiye on Sunday, where they had helped search for people trapped in the rubble following the devastating earthquake earlier this month.
In a statement, the Ballito-based Medi-Response says the loss of Herbst is a tremendous blow to the community.
The group says he was known for his passion and unwavering commitment to helping others.
Oliver Wright from the South African Private Ambulance & Emergency Services Association says Herbst played an important role in the industry.
"You would often see Paul undertaking rescue work in conjunction with other agencies that fell outside of his mandate but where he felt an obligation to help.
"His contribution will certainly be very sadly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are extended to Paul's colleagues, family and his loved ones."
Other organisations have taken to social media to pay tribute.
Arrive Alive says it's deeply saddened by Herbst's passing, while Emer-G-Med has extended thoughts and prayers to his colleagues and family.
