LISTEN: SARS acting head issues unreserved apology
Updated | By Natarah Nadesan
SARS' acting boss, Mark Kingon has told the Nugent Commission of Inquiry that SARS' eFiling system is not on the brink of collapse but needs to be upgraded.

Kingon says four and a half years of neglect has caused the IT infrastructure to deteriorate.
"Our eFiling system is not about to collapse tomorrow. But if we don't do something, we are going to get there. The IT infrastructure is important that IT be maintained and refreshed and we are going to do that. The key steps, we have already approved, and next year we will assess one million taxpayers that don't need to come to our branch," Kingon said.
Kingon who stepped into the position - after Tom Moyane's suspension - highlighted other problems at the revenue service, including unnecessary and overwhelming security and confidentiality breaches.
He defended the commission saying he trusts what it's doing.
