"As much as I am a calm person, I don't know what to say. I don't have words. I am excited, happy, nervous and shocked. But at the end of the day, this is a thing I have been paying for a long time," he told Newswatch.

The man asked not to be identified and chose not to give out any personal details.

He's told Newswatch he's no stranger to playing the lottery and had been praying for a win.

"I went somewhere here around Durban and I decided to take my ticket, it's not like one ticket, I always have more than five tickets because I play regularly.

"The machine said I must go to the nearest ITHUBA National Lottery offices, but I didn't know I am a jackpot winner at that time and then I decided to go to the website and check my ticket only to there that I am a jackpot winner."

The jackpot winner had not yet come forward by early evening yesterday, prompting lotto operator ITHUBA to ask ticket holders to check their tickets.

He says he has a plan for the money but wants to take his time.

"I'll only take the drastic decisions after everything has sunk in and then I can decide, but there is a lot I have been thinking about to do. I do have some plans, it's just that now I still have to connect everything and make final decisions on my plans."

Listen below: He asked for his voice to be distorted.

Earlier this year, someone who bought a lotto ticket in Ballito won R167 million.
