LISTEN: Puppy adopted after family stoned to death

A puppy that was stoned along with her family has been given a new lease of life.

The Durban and Coast SPCA says they were recently called in after thugs attacked a family of stray dogs in Verulam.


SPCA's Tanya Fleischer said as soon as the SPCA received a tip-off from a neighbour, who two of the adult dogs dead and rescued two of the puppies and brought them to the SPCA for treatment.


She said the vet tried desperately to save the pups.


Out of the two adult dogs and three puppies, one puppy Maze was the only survivor.

Maze's adoptive dad - Che Rama says his family had been looking to adopt a male dog but that was changed by Maze.

"I just wanted a new companion at home so I took a trip down the SPCA and I met this wonderful little creature and we brought her home and she's been absolutely a pleasure to have. 


"I think she is a little bit skittish compared to the normal puppy. You can see that she gets anxious." 


"Apart from that, I think she kind of got passed that whole anxiety because when she came home, she was a bit quieter than usual," he said. 


Rama says Maze has grown a lot from the naughty little puppy she was when they first brought her home.
