LISTEN: Court rules De Lille remains Cape Town Mayor
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
Patricia De Lille will continue to serve as the mayor of Cape Town.
The Western Cape High Court has granted her interim relief - ruling that she be reinstated.
Judge Patrick Gamble says De Lille's removal as mayor would put undue stress on service delivery to the people of Cape Town.
"We are however, genuinely concerned about the harm which her loss of office has for the people of Cape Town - the people she is supposed to serve as the executive mayor. The city has lost the services of its first citizen and the members that make her - all of whom have been automatically removed from office," Gamble said.
De Lille was kicked out of the DA last week after apparently saying she would leave the party in a radio interview.
The party also stripped her of her mayorship and appointed the deputy mayor as acting mayor.

De Lille went to court to stop the party from starting the process of filling the mayor post.
She also wanted the court to declare the automatic cessation clause the DA used to revoke her party membership unfair and unconstitutional.
The matter is due to be argued in court later this month.
