LISTEN: Ballito couple speaks of surviving Sani Pass car ordeal
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
A Dolphin coast couple has described their terrifying ordeal on a slippery snow-covered mountain road.
Brigitte and Nathan Renald had been heading to their Ballito home after spending some time in Sani Pass when they got into difficulty on an icy road.
Brigitte says their car skidded and came to a unbalanced rest several metres down the mountain after a tyre got stuck on a rock.

She says they were in more danger at that point and knew that they had to get out of the vehicle.
"He just said to me - get out, get out. I told [Nathan] that I couldn't at my side because it was at such an angle that if I'd open the door, it would have made the car carry on rolling. So, he jumped out and he tried to hold the car as much as he could on the higher side of the mountain. I climbed over the gearbox and got out that way. Panic then hit, relief, then sobs, shaking and hugging," she said.
