Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
North KwaZulu-Natal Rangers have shot and killed a lion that has been roaming around Melmoth for weeks.

It's understood the big cat had kept the KwaYanguye community on edge for weeks before it was shot dead yesterday afternoon.
KZN's Environmental Affairs MEC, Nomusa Dube Ncube says a man was attacked by a lion near Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve last year.

He was hospitalised for three weeks and is recovering at home.
Spokesperson, Ndabezinhle Sibiya says the safety and protection of people and their livestock is the department's priority.
"The MEC has expressed her appreciation to the community members who have worked with the department in dealing with this issue."
"The MEC is very happy that the leaders of society are speaking with one voice on issues around the preservation of our environment and around conservation."
