Limpopo pupil dies after swallowing pen lid

Limpopo MEC for Education Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya has expressed sadness following the tragic death of a grade four pupil.

The pupil died after accidentally swallowing a pen's lid at Moriting Primary School outside Polokwane on Monday.
The spokesperson for the department, Matome Taueatsoala said the boy was rushed to hospital after telling his teacher that he was struggling to breathe.
He said the boy died despite efforts by medical staff trying to save him.

"The MEC of Education in Limpopo, Mme Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya, and the entire management team extend sincere condolences to the family and school community," said Taueatsoala.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the learners,and family during this difficult and heartbreaking time."
After learning about the incident, the department dispatched psychological support services to the family and the school.
