Police in the Eastern Cape have started to investigate the shooting incident that took place at the Walter Sisulu University at the Mthatha Campus on Tuesday morning.

This was after one student lost his life and another was wounded.
The shooting incident allegedly took place whilst students were protesting over residence-related issues including maintenance.
Students alleged that a residence manager was the one who opened fire.
Speaking to SABC News around lunchtime on Tuesday, OR Tambo Acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Vukile Ntuli said the police were still gathering information.

"We are already crafting some cases with regard to all the incidents that took place. The murder, the attempted murders, and everything that took place here is going to be looked into in terms of the case and be investigated further on."
Ntuli added that if the residence manager was indeed involved he will also be charged.
"If he happens to be the one involved in the allegation, definitely he will, but it is a matter that is still under investigation."
