Life sentences for killers of Normandien couple
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The killers of Newcastle couple Glen and Vida Rafferty have been jailed for life.
The Pietermaritzburg High Court has sentenced Doctor Ngwenya and Sibongiseni Madondo.
Their co-accused, Siyabonga Macu, died before giving evidence in the trial.
The Raffertys were killed on their farm in Normandien in August 2020 when their killers broke into their home while they were out visiting friends.
After stealing appliances and jewellery from the home, they tried to break into the safes but were unable to do so.
They decided to wait for the couple to return.

Both Glen and Vida were shot multiple times and died at the scene after a confrontation ensued.
KZN NPA spokesperson Natasha Kara says in aggravation of sentence, State Advocate Attie Truter led testimony of Rafferty's son who told the court about the day he found his parents bodies.
She says their son told the court that he worked on the farm with them but had to sell following their deaths as it was too painful to live on the property.
"The men were sentenced to six years imprisonment for housebreaking, 15 years imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances and life imprisonment for each of the murders.
"The National Prosecuting Authority welcomes the sentence and commends the work done by the prosecution and Investigation teams."
