Lecturers appear before hearing in alleged homophobic saga

Hearings will begin today following alleged homophobic slurs at the Coastal KZN Tvet College in Umlazi, involving a student and two lecturers.
Bheka Khanyile - a second-year office administration student - says he was targeted by the educators with one allegedly directing anti-gay slurs at him.

The 21-year-old says the second lecturer refused to teach him, citing his sexual orientation as a reason.
College spokesperson, Sinegugu Zuma says Khanyile and the lecturers submitted their formal statements last week.

"The educators will be disciplined and given warnings. If it comes out that they actually said whatever the learner is alleging that they said - they'll have to issue an apology," he said.
