At least 19 Msunduzi schools affected by disconnection blitz
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Msunduzi has indicated it has no intention of pulling the plug on its disconnection drive despite schools being affected.
The city says so far 19 schools with a combined unpaid bill of R30 million have been left with no water and electricity.
The struggling municipality started cutting services last month to businesses, government departments, schools and other owing customers.
There's been criticism from the Education Department and teacher unions who say pupils should not have to suffer.

Msunduzi's Ntobeko Mkhize says their hands are tied.
"It is unfortunate that the disconnection affects the learners. It is not the intension of the municipality, however, the municipality cannot treat debtors differently.
"The municipality is forced by the bylaws and policy to do a disconnection. Once a notice has been issued and has not been acted upon the municipality has no other option."
