Law Society confident in Batohi as NDPP
Updated | By Bernadette Wicks
The Law Society of South Africa has welcomed the appointment of Shamila Batohi as the new head of the NPA.
President Cyril Ramaphosa announced yesterday that he had selected Batohi for the top post.
She is KwaZulu-Natal's former prosecutions boss and worked at the International Criminal Court in the Hague.
Now, she is the first woman to hold the title of National Director of Public Prosecutions.
Batohi will take up her new position in February.
In a statement that was issued just moments after Batohi was named as the new NDPP, the Law Society of South Africa's co-chairpersons say they are confident she has the skill, conscientiousness, integrity and independence needed for the job.

They have expressed their faith in her ability to lead the NPA and to ensure the stability of the organisation. They have also offered their support to Batohi.
