Latest SA crime stats ‘paint horrific picture'

An independent crime analyst says South Africa needs to look into the reasons behind the increase in crime and come up with long-term solutions.
The latest stats show crimes like murder, rape, kidnappings and robberies are continuing to go up.

Crime Analyst Dr Chris de Kock says it's painted a horrific picture of violent crimes in South Africa.
"To just address just street robberies and vigilantism and also to stop house break-ins, theft out of motor vehicles - there you need visible policing."

"You need visibility, but visibility based on information or intelligence.
"So you have intelligence-driven operations with the police and security companies and the patrols of the CPFs should be visible at the right place at the right time and that will prevent crime."
