Land issue has reached 'point of no return' - Mabuza
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Deputy President David Mabuza says that South Africa has reached a point of no return when it comes to the issue of land reform.
Mabuza was speaking at the two-day Communal Land Administration and Tenure Summit in Boksburg on Friday.
“As a nation, we are now at the point of no return. We have geared ourselves to confront the land question head-on, by utilising all constitutionally compliant instruments and mechanisms of transformation,” Mabuza told delegates.
“We are at the crossroads. One possibly leading to anarchy and destruction, and the other, leading to a carefully guided land reform programme that ensures strategic land acquisition, land redistribution, and restitution of land to its rightful owners and those who need it for development.”

Cooperative Governance Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, said in her address that the ANC liberation cannot be defined outside of land ownership.
She emphasised that land in South Africa belongs to all who live on it.
“Our liberation cannot be realised until the land that is below it, above it and what waters is under the control and command of what we call the majority.
"As we have said, South Africa belongs to all who live in this and the land should also belong to all who live in it.”
