Updated | By Jacaranda News
Since the beginning of December, Transport Department officials say 767 lives have been lost on South Africa's roads. KZN has recorded the highest number of deaths so far, at 162.

Aside from drinking and driving, Nzimande says the use of social media behind the wheel has become a major problem.
Nzimande delivered the department's mid-festive season preliminary road
safety report in Gauteng yesterday saying a total of 767 fatalities
have been recorded so far.
"The highest percentage increase was recorded in the Northern Cape. It was 71%, followed by the Free State with 53% and KwaZulu-Natal with 46%."
