Updated | By Portia Cele
The devastating floods in KwaZulu-Natal have claimed the life of another child.
A 15-year-old girl has drowned after she was swept away in the raging waters of a river, near Wilshire Road in Mariannhill.
Rescue Care's Garrith Jamieson says three children were washed away in the early hours of this morning.
"It's alleged that at about 1am, 2am this morning, three children aged between 6 and 15 were washed down the river."
Jamieson says community members worked tirelessly to save the other two children.
"However, they were unable to save the the third child, a 15-year-old girl. Her body was recovered this morning," he said.
Last night, four people including two children were killed in Malvern when their house caved in.
Meanwhile, a 24-year-old man who became trapped after an Overport home collapsed has died. His mother was rescued by paramedics.
Lisa Hayes, who is part of the Hatton Estate Neighbourhood Watch in Pinetown, says they have been out and about since 11pm last night.
She says Pinetown residents should try and stay off the roads today.
"It's just been crazy. We have been sending messages to family, friends and colleagues to if at all possible to stay at home," she said.
