Emergency services have been responding to multiple callouts where mudslides and flooding have caused homes to come crashing down.

There have also been multiple accidents and crashes on the province's roads in the wet driving conditions

In one incident, four people from one home in Malvern were killed when the house they were sleeping in caved in.

"We recovered four bodies, including two children," said Rescue Care's Garrith Jamieson.

Jamieson says a man, woman, a little boy and a baby girl were crushed to death when a bank collapsed onto three homes on a property along Ellen Road.

"A bank gave way and actually wiped out three separate residences, leaving multiple people entrapped and hurt. We arrived at the home to find a mudslide. We managed to save a lady who was trapped in the rubble. She then informed us that there were multiple other people in the building," said Jamieson.

The Police Search and Rescue Unit, as well as other emergency personnel, had to carry heavy slabs of concrete out of the wrecked homes as they tried to look for survivors.

Search efforts are expected to continue at the property this morning. Several people are still believed to be trapped beneath the rubble.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Overport, a woman in her 40s was pulled out of a single-storey home that had collapsed in the storm.

Jamieson says one of her sons sustained fatal injuries.

"Her one son, believed to be about 25-years-old, was pinned down [beneath the rubble]. Unfortunately he sustained major injuries and there was nothing more we could do for him and he was declared dead at the scene."
