Newswatch has been fielding calls from motorists across Durban and north and south of the city - the heavy storm continues to batter parts of KZN.

Beverly Pool, who drove to work from Glen Anil this morning says it's chaos on the roads.

"I was going along North Coast Road to join the N2 and the bottom of North Coast Road is a complete no-go. Cars are stuck right up to the top of their wheels. It's full of water. People are pulling off and can't get through the water. You cannot go through that area."

And you need to be careful if you're heading to Pinetown on the M19 - there're problems just after the garage.

"I've come along the M19 and there's a big mudslide across both lanes. There's a lot of water and you really have to go slow. You've got to hug the right-hand side of the road," she said.

Bluff resident, Mikayla Deysel says she can't keep the water out of her home.

Rescue Care's Garrith Jamieson has issued an appeal to motorists.

"Plan your route carefully, and if you don't need to go somewhere - don't go. The roads are very waterlogged and there's a lot of pooling of water. If you do need to go, please leave a bit earlier and allow yourself time to get to your destination."
