KZN woman sentenced to life for raping 10-year-old boy

A KZN woman has been given a life sentence for repeatedly raping a 10-year-old boy in Eshowe.

The 30-year-old woman was arrested in August.

She raped the boy - who's said to be her cousin - following a family birthday party.

Police say the boy later told his mother that the woman had sexually abused him on two other occasions.

Open Door Crisis Centre director, Thora Mansfield says rape of any person is unacceptable.

Mansfield says boys who have been exposed to such abuse suffer psychologically.

"They may start regressing. You might find that they start wetting the bed again, messing in their pants, weeping and have behavioural problems. It's very difficult sometimes to establish what has actually happened. Also, it affects them emotionally. It's a diabolical act - it's even worse when it's a child," he said.
