KZN weather: Prioritise safety when outdoors

Disaster management crews in KwaZulu-Natal are urging schools to take stock of the current weather conditions before heading out on excursions.

The comment comes after days of inclement weather and gale force winds across the province led to at least one fatality on the north coast.
MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Nomusa Dube-Ncube says mop-up operations are currently underway.
MEC Dube-Ncube sent her condolences to the Zungu family in the King Cetshwayo District.

A family member was electrocuted after a tree was uprooted in the strong winds and blown on to power cables near eMpangeni on Saturday night.
Dube-Ncube says officials are in contact with the family to provide the necessary support.

COGTA says rainfall is expected to continue on the north coast today, which could lead to localised flooding in low-lying areas.
People are being urged not to cross bridges and rivers in low-lying areas. Strong winds on Saturday saw homes and businesses lose their roofs while street poles and trees were also uprooted.
Some vehicles were also crushed by toppled trees.
