KZN water management system needs overhaul – Mabuza
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Deputy President David Mabuza says the destruction caused by the floods
in KZN has shown that the province's water management systems need a major
overhaul.
He says better and different reconstruction plans are needed.
"We acknowledge that the current special distribution patents and water management systems were not designed to handle several natural disasters, as experienced in affected provinces. This calls for a redesign of special arrangements and proper maintenance of our drainage systems to prevent them from clogging up.
Mabuza was answering questions on service delivery troubleshooting in flood-stricken areas in the National Assembly on Wednesday.
He says the Department of Water and Sanitation has established a war room, as a short-term intervention to assist communities with a water supply and sanitation systems.

"This water and sanitation war room will in the short-term ensure the provision of relief measures to vulnerable communities through hired water tankers for a period of 90 days that compliments the supply of water through the affected municipalities.”
Mabuza was also asked about the theft allegations hanging over President Cyril Rampahosa's head. The public protector has also launched a probe.
"Who's allowing the farm robbery in the president's place which will allow, irrespective the law enforcement agencies to investigate without interference.”
