Godongwana: Govt still to complete R1 billion flood relief
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana says government hasn’t yet finished the first phase of immediate relief for the KwaZulu-Natal floods disaster.

He briefed Parliament's Ad Hoc Joint Committee on the recent floods in KZN and the Eastern Cape on Wednesday.
Godongwana told MPs the delay is due to government departments’ failure to submit the correct documentation.
"R1 billion was the first phase of what is called an immediate response, immediate relief, that is what the R1 billion is for. The second phase could be about R25 billion; that is what is called recover and repair."

He says once the amount for the second phase comes to the Treasury they'll move things around.
"The second phase is then going to come to us, we will then access it, make the appropriate adjustment on the budget including drawing funds from the contingency reserve. So that is where we are."
