KZN Transport spent billions on irregular expenditure

KZN Transport will need to explain why billions were spent irregularly during the last financial year.
The Auditor-General’s report has revealed there was R17 billion in irregular expenditure.
Due to lack of accounting records, a further R65 million couldn’t be accounted for.
CFO Wayne Evans explains says they missed the deadline to submit their documents.
"We had to go through quite a detailed process to make sure we identified all the transactions. All of these things delay the ability to disclose and as a result, we missed that deadline. We weren't able to audit it in time for the audit report."

IFP MPL Lourens Johannes De Klerk says someone must be held accountable, "I lost hope, the previous year audit transport was leading irregular trade in the country and now we went up."
De Klerk says the plans that were put forward to deal with this issue cannot be taken seriously because the department has shown that the inability to deal with these problems.
