KZN Transport beefs up security after Merebank attacks
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
The Department of Transport in KZN is beefing up security at its offices
in Merebank, south of Durban, following a spate of attacks on staff there
recently
Three security guards were attacked and raped during a robbery at the premises on Monday.
Police say the heavily armed gang stole tools from the depot after the assault on the women in the morning.
The department's Kwanele Ncalane says these attacks are taking an emotional and physical toll on staff.
"There is still fear in our staff, and it will impact negatively on their morale and service delivery. As a department, we will make sure that our staff and those that are contracted to the department are safe on our premises, and we will make sure security upgrades are undertaken and that anyone with information must work with the police.”
