KZN received R87m from govt for flood repairs, says Hlomuka

KwaZulu-Natal Cooperative Governance MEC Sipho Hlomuka says they have so
far received around R87 million from national government to assist in
rebuilding the province after the devastating April floods.
“It was given to various municipalities. We are hoping that the national government, through the treasury, will give us more money because we really need more money as people are suffering.
Hlomuka says the death toll from the floods currently stands at 456.
Eighty-two people are still missing.
He says the damage suffered is just over R25 billion.
Hlomuka says they have consolidated all reports from the various municipalities regarding the damage from the floods and submitted them to national government.

"We are then waiting, in terms of the assessment that we have made through the engineers, and one of the engineers coming from here and Western Cape and others from different corners of South Africa.
“They've done infrastructure assessment which came to approximately R25 billion, which is public and private infrastructure.”
