Climate crisis an economic opportunity - Ramaphosa
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
South Africa needs to turn the climate crisis into an
economic opportunity.

That's according to President Cyril Ramaphosa, who spoke at the ANC's national policy conference in Johannesburg on Friday.
"We need to construct a new industrial landscape based on environmentally sustainable technology, processes and energy sources.
"And we need to ensure that this sustainable economy empowers black South Africans, women and young people."
This year South Africa felt the wrath of climate change when devastating floods that hit KZN, Eastern Cape and North West.

A major development in the works is the finalisation of the Just Transition Framework, which Ramaphosa said will guide the country's transition into a low-carbon, climate-resilient and inclusive society.
"As a country, we have started to define a pathway towards a low emissions economy in a way that enables us to industrialise and create jobs.
"We need to reduce emissions, not only for the sake of the health, well-being and security of our people but to ensure that our products and services remain competitive in a changing global economy."
