Thousands of Grade 12s will sit for their National Senior Certificate exams from next week.
READ High hopes for Matric results as exams kick off
Two smaller practical exams were written last week. Mchunu is urging pupils to take their exams seriously - saying the qualification is a stepping stone to a better life.
He says securing a matric and succeeding at a tertiary level is important for those wanting to find employment after school.
“Matric year is the culmination of hard work and dedication which stretches back at least 12 years. It is thus an accumulation of basic education which prepares a child for life at a tertiary institution and in society. We say to all the matrics of KZN, best of luck in all your matric subjects. May all your hard work and long hours of studying come to fruition,” he says, "As you step into this important part of your life, we would also like to wish you all the success with the choices of career in later life, whether this is to go to university, college or into business. The provision of fee-free university education means that the financial hurdle for post matric study which affected the poor majority, has now been removed. Yours is only to do well and to qualify accordingly. May all your wishes be fulfilled and your dreams come true".
