KZN Premier tells civil servants to strive for efficiency
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
The premier has encouraged civil servants to always strive to provide an efficient, accountable and people-centred service.
Willies Mchunu addressed government workers at the Royal Showgrounds, in Pietemaritzburg, today.
“Any inefficiency defeats our principals. Any ineffectiveness of you - as public servants - defeats the purpose,” he’s told them, “The service you are metering out is a service to your own people. That you are in government and you are getting paid for it - must not detract from the fact that you are giving a service”.

Mchunu has also challenged civil servants to introspect about how politics are impacting the services they are tasked with delivering.
“Some of you may not think that participating in unions is a political activity but it is. And many of you belong to unions,” he’s said, “Everything that happens in the political arena bounces back to you in the civil service. I don't know how you are going to get that out of the system”.
