KZN Premier says strategies in place to restore Health Dept
Updated | By Shaun Ryan
KZN Premier Willies Mchunu has roped in Provincial Planning Commissioner, Professor Ronald Green-Thompson to help turn around the provincial Department of Health.
Mchunu made the announcement at the opening of a three-day Provincial Executive Council lekgotla in Durban.
He says Green-Thompson's expertise, having been a former Health HOD, will add to efforts to develop the turn-around strategy.
"We are looking at all the challenges of management that may be inherent in the Department of Health and which may make the department to be seemingly dysfunctional," he says.

KZN Health has been in the spotlight following a damning SA Human Rights Commission Report saying the department and MEC Sibongiseni Dhlomo had failed cancer patients.
Opposition parties are demanding Dhlomo be given the boot.
Mchunu agrees with National Health Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi who says the challenges faced by KZN Health amount to poor human resources and management.
