The Office of the KZN Premier says it welcomes the probe by the Special Investigating Unit into alleged maladministration.
The SIU got the green light this week after the President signed the proclamation.
The unit says it will investigate alleged unlawful conduct by contractors, employees, or officials from 2007 to the end of July this year.

"We can assure the people of our province that the Office of the Premier will cooperate fully with the SIU and make sure that all relevant matters are finalised as soon as possible," says KZN government spokesperson Bongi Gwala.
Meanwhile, the Office of the Premier says it's committed to accountability and transparency - after achieving a clean audit for the 2022/2023 financial year.
It received a report from the Auditor-General this week.
"This demonstrates our commitment to good, clean, ethical and transparent governance and our resolve, as the Apex office, to steer the provincial Administration in the right direction."
