Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
President Cyril Ramaphosa has given the Special Investigating Unit the go-ahead to investigate allegations of maladministration in the KZN premier's office.

He has signed the proclamation.
The SIU says their probe will focus on the appointment of a consultant to support six provincial priority programmes.
They include the multi-million rand Luwamba Wellness Centre Project - as well as Operation Sukuma Sakhe Projects aimed at addressing health issues, unemployment, crime and other social ills.

SIU spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago says they'll seek to establish whether there was any unlawful conduct by the office's contractors, employees, or officials.
"The proclamation covers allegations of unlawful and improper conduct between 1 April 2007 and 29 July 2023.
"In addition to investigating maladministration and malpractice, the SIU will also identify failures and make systematic recommendations to improve measures to prevent future losses."
Kganyago says the SIU will also look into whether there is any unauthorised, irregular, or fruitless and wasteful expenditure incurred by the office.
