An inquest docket has been opened at Phoenix SAPS after the body of a 9-year-old boy was retrieved from a stream in Foresthaven - north of Durban at the weekend.
Police say a group of friends had gone swimming when one of the children was swept under the water.
His friends reported the incident to police and the Search and Rescue Unit was dispatched to the scene.
Spokesperson, Thulani Zwane says the child's body was found several kilometres from where they'd been swimming.
"The boys were swimming at one of the streams - and one of the boys had difficulty and drowned. One of the boys reported to the parents and police have opened an inquest for further investigation," Zwane said.
