According to the National Sea Rescue Institute details surrounding the incident are remain thin at this stage.

The NSRI's Craig Lambinon says they were alerted immediately after the boy was seen experiencing difficulty in the water.

Lambinon says rescue crews arrived at the scene to find that a lifeguard was already searching the lagoon.

"Police divers conducted a scuba dive search and successfully found and recovered the boy's body.  He was then declared deceased", Lambinon said.
