KZN police nab suspected smugglers

Police say efforts to smash cross-border crime syndicates at eMaguzi, in northern KZN, are paying off.

A 28-year-old woman was found in possession of counterfeit goods recently, worth R1.2 million.
She was travelling with a man on the R22, when they were flagged down by officers.

SAPS spokesperson, Jay Naicker says the driver ran away and abandoned the woman, leaving her with 15 boxes of cigarettes and takkies.
"The suspect was arrested by police and charged for being in possession of the illegal and counterfeit goods. On the following day, police conducted an operation at Phelandaba where they arrested a 36-year-old man for being in possession of stolen property."

"The suspect was travelling along the R22. During the search of the vehicle, police found two bags containing electrical appliances. The suspect could not prove any ownership of the items."
