A police officer is receiving treatment in hospital after being shot in the legs during a gun battle with a group of suspects in Loskop near Estcourt.
Four suspects were killed in the shootout on Saturday night. Police say officers had been conducting a crime stabilisation operation in the area when they inspected a house there.
Nqobile Gwala says the occupants allegedly shot at the officers first. She says the police then returned fire. Another three suspects were arrested at the scene.
They’re due to appear in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court soon.
"One of the deceased suspects was also wanted for an attempted murder case which was committed this month in Loskop. Last week, police also arrested four suspects in the same house for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition," she said.
