KZN motorists sweating as fuel price shoots up again
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
KZN motorists are amplifying calls for financial relief
after fuel prices shot up again.
The cost of both grades of petrol increased by a whopping R1.27 a litre on Wednesday. Diesel went up by 30 cents per litre. These motorists in Durban have told Newswatch they are financially stretched.
One woman called it ridiculous and said the cost of living in South Africa is high.
"Inflation is high, the repo rate is increasing and considering that this hike is probably going to the taxes the government should be assisting us.
Another man said it disconcerting that no significant steps have been taken with cleaner fuels, while a woman expressed shock that diesel is more expensive than petrol.
"We need to be compensated if the fuel price goes up, the price of bread should go down, things are becoming more and more unaffordable."

Meanwhile, the Road Freight Association's Gavin Kelly said the fuel hikes spell trouble for consumers and freight operators who now have to make tough money decisions.
