KZN govt to consult on impact of minimum wage on farmers

KwaZulu-Natal government officials say there will be talks and other consultations to determine how financially-stressed farmers can be assisted.
This follows the latest minimum wage adjustment, which came into effect on Wednesday.
The Labour Department has increased the wages for domestic and farm workers by 9.6%.
This means these two groups should earn R25.42 per hour.

The agricultural sector has said the above-inflation pay hike will put jobs and food security at risk.
Agriculture MEC Super Zuma has acknowledged this during a briefing in Durban on Wednesday morning.
"We will be engaging with farmers. Farming is not like other sectors. I am busy engaging with stakeholders and see how far is that challenge.
Some of them won't have a problem but others will have a problem. Then we will look for a way forward based on our discussion."
