KZN mom charged with murder of daughter to undergo mental evaluation

A KZN mother who was arrested following the discovery of her 6-year-old daughter's burned body in a sugarcane field is expected to undergo mental observation.

Last week Fungai Nyamadzwao had told police she was driving near the Shayamoya area when someone allegedly snatched her child from her slow-moving car, sparking a frantic search for the little girl.
Police investigations led to the discovery of the girl's body in a sugarcane field as well as the arrest of the 42-year-old mother.

On Wednesday, the mother made her second appearance at the Umhlali Magistrates Court on charges of murder, defeating the ends of justice, kidnapping and perjury.

"The matter was remanded to the 17 June for arrangements to be made for a mental observation of the accused."
