"We have noted with concern a number of incidents that has happened in our province that involve child abuse," says the department's Mhlabunzima Memela.
"These cases include cases of kidnapping, poisoning of children and in some cases there is also bullying and obviously the murder of children."
Meanwhile, two people are appearing in separate courts on Thursday in connection with cases of child murder.
One of them is a Durban mother who allegedly beat her toddler to death on Tuesday.
The other is a suspect arrested in connection with the murder of an Mbazawana teenage boy.
