Updated | By Newswatch
A 34-year old man has been sentenced to life in prison for the rape of a pregnant teenage girl in southern KwaZulu-Natal.
The 16-year-old was kidnapped in 2016 while asleep in a house in Intsikeni.
Police say she managed to escape and reported the rape.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Nqobile Gwala says the teenager was two-months pregnant at the time and lost the baby.
"The accused was placed under arrest and tried in court. He was granted bail in court and when the matter was finalised at court in 2019, he vanished.

"He has been the run since then and was arrested again this year. He was held behind the bars and until he was sentenced. The sentences will run concurrently."
Gwala says Mondli Kheswa was further sentenced in the Umzimkhulu Regional Court to five years imprisonment for kidnapping, five years for sexual assault and three years for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
