KZN sees increase in virus cases

KwaZulu-Natal has seen a spike in new Covid-19 cases, as the number of infections countrywide rose by more than 17 300.

Nearly 2 000 more people contracted the virus in the province, in the last 24 hour period.
Gauteng still recorded the highest number of daily infections in the country, at over 5 000, although the figure has significantly decreased from case numbers we saw a few weeks ago.
Infections are also growing in the Western Cape, which has recorded over 4 500 new cases.

The pandemic death toll has edged closer to 71 000.
A total of 520 more people diagnosed with Covid-19 have died.
Under KZN's vaccine rollout programme, over 34 000 people took their shots on Wednesday.
In another vaccination milestone, South Africa's administered more than seven million jabs so far.
