A KwaZulu-Natal man caught with a massive haul of copper cables believed to have been stolen from Transnet has been ordered to spend another week behind bars.

The Hawks arrested Bongani Mbatha in Ladysmith on Sunday.
Spokesperson Simphiwe Mhlongo says they were tipped off about a suspect hiding in a house at Tsakane location.
"A joint operation was conducted and they proceeded to the said house. A search was conducted and copper cables with an estimated street value of approximately R550 000 were found."

"Transnet officials positively identified it as Transnet property. Mbatha was placed under arrest and charged with possession of stolen property."
Mbatha, who made a brief appearance in court on Tuesday, will line up again before a Ladysmith magistrate next Friday for a decision on his legal representation.
