KZN man handed life sentence for rape, kidnapping of teen

A 34-year-old man has begun serving a life sentence for the rape of a teenage girl in southern KwaZulu-Natal.
The man, who was in a relationship with the victim's friend, was also convicted for assault and kidnapping in the uMzimkhulu Regional Court.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) provincial spokesperson Natasha Kara says he took the victim to his home in Ngwagwane area in 2016, after accusing her of breaking into his property.

She was held against her will and kept at the house the entire weekend.
"The man was given a life sentence for rape, five years imprisonment for kidnapping, a fine of R5 000 or 3 years imprisonment for sexual assault and a fine of R3 000 or 3 years imprisonment for assault.
"The court also ordered that his name must be entered into the national register for sexual offenders.
"The National Prosecuting Authority welcomes the successful prosecution.”
