KZN man accused of wife's murder to apply for bail

A KwaZulu-Natal south coast man charged with murdering his wife will apply for bail next week.
Gary Govender made his first appearance in the Umzumbe Magistrates Court yesterday.
The 37-year-old reported to police last week that two gunmen had shot and killed his wife. However, investigations led police back to Govender and he was arrested for the crime on Friday.
"He was remanded in custody until November 19. This is after he went to the police station and reported that he was attacked while he was with his wife. Two unknown suspects started to shoot towards the wife, fatality wounding her," said SAPS spokesperson Thembeka Mbele.
"When police conducted initial investigations, they found that he was linked to the murder of his wife. He was immediately arrested," continued Mbhele.
Meanwhile, a Nongoma man accused of sexually assaulting and murdering his two-year-old stepdaughter also made his first appearance before a magistrate yesterday.
He too was remanded in custody for a formal bail application next week.
