KZN heat has massive impact on homeless, says NGO
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
A Durban centre for the homeless says Thursday's scorching heat in KZN will be particularly hazardous for those on the streets.
Some parts of the province are expected to reach highs of nearly 40 degrees.
Raymond Perrier from the Dennis Hurley Centre said without the comfort of proper shade or the luxury of air conditioning, people living on the streets are left vulnerable to the harsh elements.

"You might be standing on the street begging, you might be standing on the street without shoes, you might find some shade and get moved by police or by the security guy because they don't like you sitting there. So it's a real challenge.
"When the weather changes dramatically, then those changes have some impact on people's health and the ability for people to look after themselves. So, we really need to be sensitive to the needs of all vulnerable people during this period," said Perrier.
